Barefoot and Fancy Free…
There is such an indescribable feeling that accompanies a true country style wedding. Subtle hints of elegant things intermingled with homespun folly creates an atmosphere that is welcoming and fancy free.
Sure it’s a wedding but that doesn’t mean you can’t take your shoes off. Country, cottage, and folksy style weddings are a great setting to incorporate many of your Do It Yourself (DIY) ideas. To make it especially personal try to incorporate bits and pieces of your past and present.
For instance, if you are making a fabric banner like the one above, why not use fabrics from some of your childhood clothes. Vintage sheets that have been preserved in the top of the linen closet for decades make charming table clothes and chair sashes. Gather a few of your mother’s or grandmother’s vintage purses and fill them with fresh or silk flowers turning them into whimsical floral centerpieces. Fashion men’s ties out of sheets or fabric from your father’s suits that he’s grown out of. (Patterns are still available in pattern books at your local fabric store.) Buttons can be transformed into timeless boutonnieres. Mason jars containing tea lights can be hung from the branches of trees or set in window sills to create a flicker of romance…or fill them with clusters of baby’s breath for an inexpensive yet impressive point of interest.
The ideas for this type of wedding are as endless as time itself. Look around…you might be amazed at how many wonderful wedding decor treasures are all around you just waiting to be discovered.
